Literature Text

a pretty face with too much coat knee highs
and the hidden throat left
awkward but not slow and deft despite
the gouges unmasked by the hem
of that garment
sidled downward
and there's excitement in the air still
because where she walked
everything was light and fairies and possibilities
not a P.C in sight nor a thank you please
and the pretty face feared the thank you please
like nothing else that man can weave
even the alright love who swayed under the bridge
the nondescript hallo who dipped a hat and took a coin
none of these beings are as much a pin
in the pretty face's heart
the gouges seemingly bared
unmasked?

but steady as she goes oh he is a laugh
bright eyes white beard and long deep laugh
and even his cheeks are the colour
of...
pretty face blushes to remember the pain of it
the thrusts and warps and
broken skin
but beggars can't be choosers, now he's a scallywag
fucked off right away to Langport, or to some petty Western Town
on the Petty Western Express
to his petty western woman

no one is as pretty as her but
pretty face moves quietly and as though
if seen
she'll be the terror of the day
to 34 Mable Road
where inward the glass looks
and sees

a manifold crowd gathered in awe
at the pretty-faced woman, called Abigail Eve
who so unwarranted
and so frightened
tears staining the good captain's lapel
surrendered her life
and is still at last

she looks, and is unseen, and her tears are marbles that dash her sockets to ash.
Nourishment, and the seeds that sown make us wait a lifetime, ish...

Damn, Matt.
There's something very real and energetic about this one. I loved it. Inside and out. I want to hug this poem.
