gunned down
in the blink of a thought and
for tuna and blowfish this
presents a chance but
to land lubbers like you
time to check out

for just the taste
of the salt at low tide
like stinging blood from ocean's veins
a fish and chips I'd
take a moment and enjoy
sate the empty spaces that have grown
where an appetite and hunger
once in a bright place lost
lived

for my sins, I'm not to know the pleasure
of the rub of flesh
lips luxuriating on my face
ringing of glasses bearing noxious wine
I can say these things and yet
no sense of them ever again
cos from beyond the chasm at
the edge of the world looking back
I catch a mere glimpse of home
and then I'm gone
